Meet Your Coach

Kristy Sarausky, M. Ed, RCP

Like many under-supported and high-functioning women, I turned to alcohol to cope with the stress of life, with grief and anxiety.

Alcohol helped me cope with issues I didn’t want (or know how) to address. And it worked really well - until it didn’t. Deep shame, brutal hangovers and an existential crisis of “is this it? is this my life??” caused me to realize that I was the creator of (and answer to) my problems. When I started taking radical responsibility for my life and started compassionately exploring my need to escape…my whole life shifted. It’s now my privilege to help others become emotionally and physically sober and walk with them as they create lives they no longer want to escape from.

I’m very lucky that I get to write and speak publicly about grey-area drinking when I’m not working privately with clients. I deeply believe that education and shame-reduction are paramount when it comes to making recovery possible for people who often feel like they’re not in a great place, but not “bad enough” to get help or don’t align with traditional recovery methods such as AA or rehabilitation programs. I’m also a firm believer that we do not have to hit a rock bottom before receiving support.

I brought this offering into the world because it was what  I was looking for six years ago. I needed a compassionate place to land as I navigated sobriety without AA, grieved profound loss, and was dealing with dysfunctional family dynamics that I did not want to carry forward to my children.

I’m a deep feeler, a constant creator of art projects, yoga + meditation teacher among other more mundane things. I love contemplating the big questions of life, appreciate dark humour, a good cup of decaf (hey Mochaberry) and the chipmunks that are forever rearranging the flower bulbs in my garden.

I got sober in 2019 after an unrequited love affair with alcohol and received my recovery coach training from the Connecticut Community for Addictions and Recovery in the fall of 2021. I also hold a BA from Dalhousie University and M.Ed in Adult Education from Mount Saint Vincent University.
